Vos

These friendly and water-loving people are essentially humans. However, thousands of years of island life has shortened their stature and generally miniaturized their appearance.

Often mistaken for children amongst human companions, Vos average 100 – 115 cm (3’ 3” – 3’ 9”) in height and 22 – 29 kg (48 – 64 lbs.) in weight. Their most distinctive feature is their large eyes. They have eyes roughly one and a quarter times as large as humans. This is often interpreted as being a very attractive feature and many a human man has fallen for the charms of a Vos woman.

Vos have a dark complexion, similar to Polynesians. Their eyes are often brown or near black. However, some have brilliant blue or green eyes, setting off their dark complexion in a fascinating way.

The vos, like the toka, are native to the tropical region known as Tosh. The many islands and tropical beaches provide a beautiful landscape. Where the toka prefer the forests, the vos prefer the areas near water.

Most vos communities have no official structure, instead simply having a headman. This lack of structure in their governance then affects their relations with outsiders, because they have not been trained throughout life to bow to the whim of a faceless government. This causes some to think of vos as lawless or anarchist.

Vos are quite personable and amiable. They love boating, swimming and any activity that puts them near water. Fish and other seafood are their main meat foods. They also cultivate all of the traditional canoe plants.

Vos, like toka, use barter more commonly than currency in trade. For actual currency, vos generally use items like cowrey shells and pigs or dogs.

Vos are not usually violent, but have had bloody battles between settlements. They favor knives and spears and have a special form of martial arts using a double-knife.

Storytelling is a favorite pastime for vos and favorite stories told by quality storytellers are often embellished with the assistance of others to make sound effects.
